A Portland, Ore. inhabitant was reportedly stabbed 15 times by a homeless assailant who followed the victim home on Saturday night and stole part of a jackpot, authorities disclosed.
The resident had gathered approximately $2,000 while playing lottery machines at Montana’s Bar in Portland shortly before the brutal attack, as reported by Oregon TV station KATU.
It seems the victim encountered the alleged perpetrator, Pablo Andres Figueroa, 61, while at the bar.
After collecting his winnings, the victim proceeded to his residence located in an apartment complex. He was oblivious to the fact that Figueroa was trailing him the entire way back. When Figueroa arrived at the building, he managed to get through a security gate.
As the victim entered his apartment, Figueroa forced the door open and knocked him to the floor, according to authorities. Figueroa then reportedly began striking the victim in the face and demanded the victim hand over the money.
The victim complied with some of the cash, but Figueroa sought more funds.
Annoyed, Figueroa then brandished what was described as a pocketknife and slashed the victim in the arms, chest, and face. The continuous stabbings ceased when the victim feigned being dead, evidently staying motionless on the ground.
Local law enforcement was notified and initiated a search for the suspect. Figueroa was ultimately located in the building’s dumpster area. Officers patrolled him and discovered $624. They also identified blood on his pants and a pocketknife in a litter box near the victim’s front entrance.
Figueroa was charged with attempted murder, robbery, assault, burglary, and illegal use of a weapon. He pleaded not guilty to the accusations during a court appearance on Monday.
He is slated to return to court on Tuesday. If found guilty of the charges, he might face a prison term.
Police conducted a records check on Figueroa and learned that he had been convicted in Arkansas and California for multiple offenses, including battering a spouse, threatening a crime with intent to intimidate, and failing to adhere to sex offender reporting mandates.
A 2022 case is also ongoing in Oregon’s Multnomah County for unauthorized vehicle use and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was additionally apprehended in Oregon’s Washington County in 2021 for identity theft and drug-related charges.
Last Friday, he did not attend a scheduled court hearing.
The victim is anticipated to recuperate from his injuries. Police refrained from providing details regarding the severity of his wounds.
